PROF. JOSEPH C AKUNNA
Professor Akunna has a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, MSc in Hydraulics & Water Resources Engineering, MSc and PhD in Environmental Science & Engineering. He has over 30 years’ research and teaching experience in his areas of expertise and currently holds the Chair of Water & Environmental Engineering at Abertay University, Dundee, United Kingdom. He is also the University’s Director of Postgraduate Environmental Education and Urban Water Technology Centre (UWTC). UWTC works on the interface between scientific and technological research that addresses the built environment, sustainable development and climate change in three main areas: research, knowledge transfer and consultancy. He consults for companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations within and outside the UK. He is a Visiting Professor at various universities outside the UK and serves on the expert panels of many national and internation research and professional organizations. Professor Akunna has authored and co-authored over 200 publications, which include journal articles, books and book chapters.
PROF. P. AGAMUTHU
Prof. Dato’ Dr Agamuthu FASc, is a Senior Professor (with 50 years of experience in Waste Management) in the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development at Sunway University (SU). He is a Global top 2% Scientist in Environmental Sciences by Stanford University. He was also the Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) at the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences, SU. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia since 2014. He is appointed as the High-Level End Foreign Expert for the Ministry of Science and Technology, China and is also a Visiting Professor for Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou, China. He is the Chairman of the International Consultant Committee on Waste to Energy (ICCWtE), based in Zhejiang University. He was an Associate Editor/ Senior Editor in Chief of Waste Management and Research (WM&R) for 20 years, and is currently an International Advisory Board member for WM&R. He is on the editorial boards of several journals such as Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management and Journal of Safety and Environment. He is the Vice-President of the Society of Solid Waste Management Experts in Asia and Pacific Islands (SWAPI). He is the Founder Head of the Center for Research in Waste Management and the Founder President of the Malaysian Society of Waste Management and Environment. Currently he is the Chairman for the Organization for Climate Change (OFCC), Malaysia. He is an Honorary life member of International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). He has published 23 books, 41 chapters in books and authored over 626 peer-reviewed articles, proceedings and invited papers. He has done over 76 consultancy projects and supervised over 200 Master’s Degree students and 46 doctoral students. His research interest includes Solid Waste Management, Plastic and Microplastics, Circular Bio-Economy in Agriculture, EPR, Marine Debris, Landfills and Biomass/Waste to Energy, ESG, to name a few. He has international networking and collaboration in several countries such as the UK, China, Austria, Japan, Korea, India, Norway, Finland, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, to name a few.
PROF.(DR.) SUDARSHAN KURWADKAR
Dr. Sudarshan Kurwadkar is a tenured full Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at California at California State University, Fullerton. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer, and an elected Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), reflecting his significant contributions to the profession. His research focuses on the fate and transport of organic and inorganic pollutants in the environment, specifically targeting emerging contaminants of concern. With over fifty scholarly articles published in peer-reviewed journals, his work continues to influence the field. Throughout his sixteen years of academic career, he has received numerous awards, scholarships, and fellowships, a testimony to his outstanding scholarly work. In 2025, he is awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award, 2020 L. Donald Shield Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities, both these awards are given to one faculty out of more than 2000 faculty or instructors. In 2021, he received the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine fellowship and served as a Senior NRC Research Associate at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
